In a Therapeutic Massage the therapist focuses the treatment on the specific concerns you have. This can be as broad as back pain or as specific as carpal tunnel. This type of treatment is done with moderate to deep pressure, utilizing a variety of techniques. Therapeutic massage can still be a relaxing, enjoyable experience, with proper feedback to your therapist on your preference of depth. Like other types of massage, therapeutic massage is most beneficial when undertaken on a regular basis, so that the therapist and client can work together to correct long term problems, relax the body, and prevent injury.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE
Supporting mom-to-be throughout her pregnancy journey and into life as a new mom.
Pregnancy (or ‘Prenatal’) Massage, is a form of treatment specifically tailored to support and relax a woman’s body as it shifts and changes throughout pregnancy. Each stage of pregnancy brings new changes and massage therapy can assist mom-to-be through this process. Proper positioning ensures comfort and safety for the mother and baby. During the massage, specific techniques are used, modified or avoided depending on the stage and state of the pregnancy as well as the health of the mother. Before making an appointment, please check with your physician to make sure that massage is right for you.
HOT STONE MASSAGE
Hot stone massage takes relaxation to the next level. In this session, heated (and cooled) stones are used, both as an extension of the therapists’ hands as well as placed on the body, to relax and treat the tissue. Although this treatment is often booked with relaxation in mind, there are a number of benefits to using the stones. Sessions can be customized to focus on specific areas of concern using the stones to deepen therapeutic treatment and to treat soreness, muscle guarding, physical symptoms of stress and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. In addition, it can benefit conditions that respond well to heat or weight, such as anxiety, insomnia, and restless leg syndrome.
It is important to note that hot stone massage may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals with conditions/medications that are impacted by heat, such as heart disease and pregnancy should not receive hot stone massage. Other contraindications include certain skin conditions, acute injuries and conditions that impact sensation such as diabetes and MS. If you have any medical conditions that make you unsure if treatment is safe for you, it is best to consult with your doctor.
Lastly, as with all services, please let your therapist know about any discomfort or concerns during the session, especially if the stones feel too hot or cause discomfort. With open communication and feedback, they can adjust and tailor the session to make sure you have the best experience possible.
